Jason Marshall is the freshest voice on the baritone saxophone. His abundant creativity and solid bebop vernacular coupled with a soulful approach have made him one of the world's most sought-after saxophone players.
A Grammy-nominated composer and arranger, Jason currently performs with the Mingus Big Band, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, the Birdland Latin Jazz Orchestra, Roy Hargove Big Band, RH Factor. A modern sound and the ability to adapt to any musical situation has Jason on the short list of jazz saxophone players, and he is regularly called upon by the pop and R&B music industry. These artist include The Roots, Public Enemy, Kid Rock, Eminem, Beyonce, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Dianne Warwick, Bilal, The Temptations and The Four Tops.
As a educator, Jason has given lectures, conducted workshops and hosted master classes all over the United States and in Europe and Australia, as well. He has taught on the subjects of jazz history, improvisation, jazz theory and saxophone proficiency as well as African American history and post-modernism as they relate to jazz music.
As a native of the Washington DC Metro area, Jason thrived in the vibrant music scene. He graduated from the Eubie Blake High School for the Arts while studying saxophone privately with Lorenz Wheatley and Paul Carr. He completed his bachelors degree in Jazz saxophone at the New School in New York City where he studied under Ronnie Cuber, Gary Smulyan, Greg Tardy, Mark Gross, Bruce Williams, Steve Wilson and Jim Snidero. Jason completed his masters degree in Jazz Performance at the Aaron Copeland School of Music where he studied under Ralph Bowen.
