Venezuelan-born and of Haitian descent, Pedro Eustache is a multicultural US citizen and openly creative solo flautist, world woodwinds and reeds artist, wind synthesist, composer, educator and lecturer, with a unique, richly eclectic, multi-directional personal voice. His musical language is the direct result of years of both solid studies and professional experience in Classical, Jazz, World Music, Popular, and Computer/Electronic music art forms.
After beginning his musical studies under his brother, maestro Michel Eustache, he became a member of genius Dr. Jose Antonio Abreu's "El Sistema." He later graduated from both the Hector Berlioz Conservatory and L'École de Musique d'Asniéres with maestros R. Guiot & P-Y. Artaud (in classical & avant-garde flute), following then with special studies with the extraordinary maestro Auréle Nicolet, in Basel, Switzerland. He was first solo principal flute for the renowned Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra and the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra, and later received his M.F.A. in Jazz from the California Institute of the Arts. He studied world music disciplines with extraordinary masters, including India's legendary genius, the late Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (bansuri), maestro Djivan Gasparian (Armenian duduk), and Dr. Nabil Abdmouleh (Arabic ney) to name a few. He also studies Musical Phenomenology with maestro Markand Thakar, musical director of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and has done studies & research in musical wind instrument acoustics with notable acousticians like the late genius John W. Coltman, Ph.D. and Peter L. Hoekje, Ph.D.
Mr. Eustache's professional activities run the gamut from solo western Classical recitals to Jazz concerts, as well as Pop, World Music tours, recordings & lectures. He is the world winds player de facto and main world winds soloist in the Los Angeles studio recording music scene. To say his list of film credits is extensive would be an understatement. This is just a sampling:
Steven Spielberg's films Munich, Indiana Jones IV & War Horse with film music composer legend, John Williams; With iconic film composer Hans Zimmer: Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and 4, Kung Fu Panda, and more; Peter Jackson's King Kong w/James Newton Howard, and also The Interpreter, Hidalgo and more; Rio 1 & 2...Ice Age 1-4...Coco...Skull Island...Jumanji 2...The Legend of Tarzan...Zohan...World of Warcraft...A Wrinkle In Time with Ramin Djawadi...the Game Of Thrones TV series, and other film, TV and video game soundtracks too numerous to mention. He was also the main world winds instrumentalist in John Debney's soundtrack for Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" movie (Oscar-nominated for best film music in 2005), and his flutes are the "voices" of the dolphins in 2009's Oscar-winning documentary "The Cove". He was a featured soloist in the '05 Grammy award-winning "Concert for George," as a member of India's legendary master, and his teacher, the late genius Pandit Ravi Shankar (Pedro was his only Latin-American disciple).
The list of superstars with whom Pedro has recorded or performed at prestigious festivals, concerts and institutions is mind-boggling. He is the main solo featured winds, world winds & wind synthesist for the "Hans Zimmer Live" 2017 world tour, as well as "Game of Thrones - The Live Concert Experience" (2017-2018); performing on 15 acoustic & electronic [analog/digital] unique instruments, many of which were built and/or specially modified for these tours, and with John Debney's "The Passion" Oratorio. For more than 10 years he was the featured winds soloist with New Age superstar Yanni, and has performed, recorded and/or toured with Sir Paul McCartney, Shakira, Don Henley, Persian diva Googoosh, and Latin extraordinary Alex Acuña's "The Unknowns", to name a few. He has been a featured soloist with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra as well as many others.
Pedro has completed the manuscripts for two books (unpublished): "Writing Cadenzas for the Mozart Flute Concerti," and "Introduction to Improvisation," and is writing two more: "The Flute Book: A Holistic Approach to Flute Instruction" and "Some of My Woodwind Instruments". With a collection of over 600 wind, strings, percussion, and electronic instruments from all over the world--many of which have been custom designed and built by himself-- he holds a unique position in the international performing, touring & recordings studio scenes. Mr. Eustache's performances are full of tremendously uplifting energy, which seem to contrast with the tragedy he and his wife Sara suffered years ago, when losing their three-year-old daughter, Ginette Esther, to brain cancer. Pedro publicly dedicates his art to "The Father of Lights", source of all true inspiration.
